RBE No.141/1985 Sports – Sports Promotion on the Railways
No.RSCB/GM/85, dated 14.05.1985
Sub: Sports promotion on the Railways.
While considerable efforts are made by the Zonal Railway and the Production Units to achieve success in senior sections of competitive sports, it has been felt that talent amongst the children of Railway employees has, by and large, remained untapped. This Ministry has considered it necessary that directives are issued by the General Managers to Divisions and workshops for holding junior level competitions at inter Division levels in selected disciplines of sports.
These disciplines chosen for 1985-86 are Athletics, Volleyball, Hockey and Football. Sports Officers of the Railway Units and Welfare Inspectors dealing with sports in divisions and workshops should be made responsible to ensure large participation of railwaymen’s children in these competitions and in coaching camps.
It is noted that Railway Units have adequate reserve of coaches who should be used for such purposes.
It has also been decided that Inter Railway Championships for Jrs. will be introduced with immediate effect in Volleyball, Hockey and Football in addition to Athletics. Railway’s hosting the Sr. Championships will conduct the junior events also.
In order for a Railway to be eligible for scoring Kaul Gold Cup points in a particular game, it would be mandatory for the Railway unit to conduct junior level competitions as referred to in para 1 above and to field their junior team in the Indian Railway Championships.
