RBE No. 169/2003: Quarters – Retention – To Officers/ Staff Posted to New Zones/ New Divisions

Sub: Retention of Railway accommodation at the previous place of posting in favour of officers/ staff posted to new Zones.
Ref: Railway Board’s letter No.E(G)97 QR 1-28, dated 02.09.2002 (RBE No. 146/2002).

1. In terms of Railway Board’s letter No.E(G)97 QR 1-28, dated 02.09.2002 (RBE No. 146/2002), in order to facilitate smooth operationalization of New Zones, Officers/ staff on posting to New Zones/ Divisions, were permitted retention of Railway Quarters at the previous of posting for a period of one year from the date of relief.

2. New Zones had represented to Railway Board about acute shortage of accommodation and requested for extending the period of retention, permitted vide instructions 02.09.2002 (RBE No. 146/2002). The matter has been reviewed by Railway Board in their meeting held on 22.08.2003 wherein in exercise of the powers vested in Board as per letter No.E(G)99 QR 1-16, dated 18.07.2000 (RBE No. 136/2000), the Ministry of Railways (Railway Board) have decided, in public interest to relax the existing provisions and allow further retention of Railway accommodation in favour of officers/ staff already posted to New Zones and retaining Railway quarters at their previous place of posting for a further period of one year in continuation of Board’s letter dated 02.09.2000 (RBE No. 146/2002). This relaxation would also apply in cases where the officers/ staff are provided with transit accommodation at new Zones. The grant of permission would however be subject to the conditions as laid down in instructions dated 02.09.2000 (RBE No. 146/2002).

3. This issues with the approval of the Finance Directorate of the Ministry of Railways.
