Following this change, IRCTC is in the process of preparing Pantry car to operate cluster on the train. Here, the breakfast and food will be prepared for the passengers travelling on the train. Currently, a similar arrangement is in place in the semi-high-speed train, Vande bharat. There is hot water in the train, but everything else is served after the train is first prepared. Following the Railway Board’s order, the entire catering system in trains will be changed from July.

Under the new system, preparations are being made to provide quality food in trains of any route. Different agencies will be given the responsibility to operate the Pantrycar. Any agency will have the responsibility of five to seven trains on the same route. Whichever agency will be given the responsibility of a route, it will prepare its own sell kitchen around the station. From here, food and snacks will be prepared and supplied in trains.

On behalf of North Eastern Railway, the responsibility of operating the pantry cars of 80 trains as a cluster has been started. For this, tenders have been invited from different agencies till the due date. The responsibility of trains will be handed over to the agency only on the basis of its experience. The work of the agency will also be checked from time to time. Railway officials said that the base kitchen opened at the cluster will also be subject to surprise inspection from time to time. If necessary, the food samples will be sent to the lab for testing. With this the quality of the kitchen will remain intact.
