Sub: Provision of Line Boxes for Drivers, Guards and Brakesmen.
Reference instructions issued under Department of Railways’ letter of even number dated 10.07.1986 (RBE No.124/1986) raising the initial payment to Rs.80 towards cost of the Line Boxes as against the prevalent cost of Rs.60 to Drivers, Guards and Brakesmen.
The subject regarding life of Line Box came up for discussion in the PNM Meeting held between the NFIR and Railway Board on 22.07.1986 and it was decided that the Line Box should be replaced subject to the condition that such replacement of the Line Box is not allowed more than twice during the entire service period.
Accordingly, Drivers, Guards and Brakesmen in whose cases the duration of the Line Boxes has exceeded or may exceed in future 15 years, may be paid again the initial cost thereof i.e. Rs.80, to replace the same. A record of supply of line box and replacement thereof may be maintained by the respective Railways.
This has the sanction of the President and issues with the concurrence of the Finance Directorate of the Department of Railways, Ministry of Transport.
