RBE No.150/1985 Sports – Sports promotion on the Railways

No.RSCB/GM/85, dated 25.05.1985

Sub: Sports promotion on the railways.

Please refer to this Board’s letter of even number dated 14.05.1985 (RBE No.141/1985) regarding holding of junior level competitions at Inter-Division levels in Athletics, Volleyball, Hockey and Football. Your attention is, in this connection, invited to the Para 17 of M.R.’s Budget Speech for 1985-86, appended below:-

“Railways continued to remain in the forefront and dominate the national sports scene in a big way. Out of the 24 national championships they participated in during 1984-85, they won national titles in nine and finished runners-up in six. It is a matter of great pride for the Railways that seven of their sportsmen and women were included in the Indian contingent for the Twenty-third Olympic Games and the most outstanding athlete of the Indian contingent belonged to the Railways. We are now embarking on a programme for providing opportunity to the juniors to develop their potential.”

As would be seen therefrom M.R. has given an assurance that Railways are now embarking on a programme for providing opportunity to the Juniors to develop their potential. It may also be added that M.S.R. has as well directed that Inter-Division and Inter-Railway Championships for Juniors may be started with immediate effect.

It is, therefore, requested that action taken in this regard may please be advised immediately.
