RBE No. 63/1985 Official Car – Non-official Use – Rates of Recovery

Sub: Rates of recovery for non official use of official cars allotted to General Managers and Senior Administrator Grade Officer of the Railways.

1. References board’s letters Nos. (i) E(G)63 AL 4/34, dated 15/17.01.1964, (ii) E(G)67 AL 4/17, dated 25.06.1968, (iii) E(G)73 AL 4/1, dated 29.09.1981; and (iv) E(G)76 AL 4/10, dated 24.05.1978 on the above subject.

2. Impartial modification of the Board’s orders referred to a above, it has been decided that:-

(i) The fixed amount of contribution to be made by General Managers of Zonal Railways, as are availing/or desirous of availing this facility to meet the expenditure of running the cars in respect of non-official journeys for private purposes upto 500 Kms per month performed by them stands increased from Rs.150 to Rs.225 per month for cars above 16 HP and from Rs.100 to Rs.150 per month for cars upto and including 16 HP.

(ii) Journeys in official cars (subject to availability) between office and residence may be treated as duty journeys in the case of all officers in the Senior Administrative Grade, (Level-1 and above), where the use of official cars become necessary/inescapable.

3. Item (ii) of para 2 above is a permissible provision and this by itself should not give rise to any fresh demands from Railway Administrations for procurement of additional staff cars.

4. These instructions come into force from 1st March, 1985.

5. This has the sanction of the President and issues with the concurrence of the Finance Directorate of the Ministry of Railways.
